Roberto Lupini

Role

Roberto is a Senior Associate that joined Omnia in November 2021. He has over a decade of experience practicing in the areas of international arbitration and public international law. Roberto has represented multiple States before the International Court of Justice and has been involved in over a dozen investment treaty arbitrations under ICSID and UNCITRAL rules. He has also represented numerous companies in commercial arbitration proceedings

Career

Prior to joining Omnia, Roberto spent six years at a renowned public international law boutique in London and, before that, he spent four years at a global law firm, where he advised on contentious and non-contentious public international law and international dispute resolution matters.

Roberto has acted on a wide range of public international law issues including investment arbitration disputes, boundary disputes, international humanitarian law, the laws of war, international criminal law, human rights, State responsibility, State succession, Statehood, treaty law, international organisations and the exploitation of natural resources in disputed territories. Recent highlights of his practice include representing States in five proceedings before the International Court of Justice, winning two ICSID annulment proceedings involving two awards of approximately half a billion dollars each and defeating a multi-billion dollar ICSID case brought against the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Among other things, Roberto is currently acting for a number of Balkan States in high-profile investor-State arbitration proceedings.

Qualifications

Roberto holds an LL.M from the University of Chicago and a law degree from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello. Roberto is fluent in Spanish, Italian and English and holds a basic working knowledge of French. He appears and speaks at conferences and published in several areas including international arbitration and public international law.
