Omnia Strategy’s Gabrielle Holly contributes to first legal symposium in Vedanta.

Omnia Strategy’s Gabrielle Holly has contributed to the first legal symposium on the much anticipated decision of the UK Supreme Court in Vedanta Resources PLC and anor v Lungowe and ors hosted by Opinio Juris and the International Commission of Jurists. The decision has been called “the most important judicial decision in the field of business and human rights since the jurisdictional ruling of the United States Supreme Court in Kiobel v Royal Dutch Petroleum in 2013”.

The symposium brought together a group of experts and practitioners who were invited by the International Commission of Jurists to discuss the significance and likely impact of the judgment in law and policy making; the prospects for success in other similar cases; and consequences for companies’ practices, policies and litigation strategies. The symposium saw Gabrielle Holly, Robert McCorquodaleDoug CasselAnil YilmazLucas RoordaClaire Bright and Carlos Lopez discuss and debate the Supreme Court’s approach to duty of care, jurisdiction and the broader implications of the case.
