Global Supply Chains – Global Responsibility: Human Rights and Decent Work in Global Supply Chains

As President of the Council of the EU, the Government of Germany hosted a summit last October on ‘Global Supply Chains – Global Responsibility: Human Rights and Decent Work in Global Supply Chains’. This coincided with and strongly supported the EU Commission’s Sustainable Corporate Governance legislative initiative, which is expected to produce (in Q2 2021) a proposal including mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence and a broadening of directors’ duties.

This recently-released video conference summary features senior representatives from the public, private and civil society sectors, including Omnia’s Chair Cherie Blair CBE (Cherie Booth Q.C.) speaking at 04:58 about the need for business executives to grip this issue. Cherie comments;

“The reality is, there is no one silver bullet or a one size fits all solution. What is clear is that companies must ensure the right tone from the top and that respect for human rights is embedded into strategies, plans, policies, practices and critically their due diligence.”
