Omnia Strategy Hires & Promotes
15th June 2022
Omnia Strategy LLP (Omnia), the firm founded by Cherie Blair CBE, QC, is pleased to announce that James Dingley joined the partnership on 6 June 2022.
Mr Dingley specialises in international commercial and investment treaty arbitration, and brings to Omnia his 16+ years’ experience of resolving complex, high value and politically sensitive disputes.
Mr Dingley is admitted to practise in England & Wales, and started his career in 2006 in the international arbitration practice of a ‘Magic Circle’ law firm, based in London, before leaving in 2020 to establish the London office of an overseas law firm. He also has experience as in-house counsel, having spent time on secondment at both a major international energy company and the UK subsidiary of a multinational aerospace and defence conglomerate. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and was named as a “Rising Star” of international arbitration by the UK Legal 500 in 2021.
He regularly advises on the implementation and execution of effective risk mitigation strategies, and has acted both in arbitrations conducted pursuant to all major international rules (LCIA, ICC, SIAC, SCC, ICSID Rules and the Energy Charter Treaty), as well as in ad hoc arbitrations (including pursuant to the UNCITRAL Rules, the LMAA Terms and national legislation). He has particular experience of disputes in the energy & natural resources sector and/or with a connection to Africa, the Middle East, Central and Southern Asia and the wider CIS region. He also accepts appointments as an arbitrator, and is a member of the panel of arbitrators at the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) and the Russian Arbitration Centre (RAC).
Mr Dingley is currently advising a number of States, State-owned entities and private entities in investment treaty and commercial arbitration proceedings relating to sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe and the wider CIS region.
Mr Dingley said:
“I am delighted to be joining the team at Omnia, which has both a unique market profile and approach to resolving international disputes. There is very significant overlap between the subject matter and nature of the mandates with which the firm is regularly entrusted and my practice to date, and I look forward to working with the firm’s highly-talented, multi-lingual individuals as we continue to develop and grow the firm’s international disputes practice together”.
In addition to the arrival of Mr Dingley, Omnia has further strengthened its practice by hiring a new associate, Ricardo Gerhard Tuma.
Mr Gerhard Tuma joins Omnia after having spent approximately five years as an arbitration specialist at another public international law firm based in London, following five years at a US-based full-service law firm. He advises sovereign States, international organisations and private entities on contentious and non-contentious public international law issues, with a particular focus on international dispute resolution. Among other things, Mr Gerhard has advised and represented Nigeria in its successful defence of a multi-billion US dollar ICSID claim brought by an investor in the oil industry and a US chemicals group in an ICSID annulment proceeding initiated by Venezuela. Ricardo is also a Visiting Lecturer at King’s College London, where he teaches international dispute resolution and international investment law to postgraduate students.
Mr Gerhard Tuma said:
“Omnia’s exceptional, vibrant and collegiate group of lawyers provides its clients unmatched and bespoke legal services at the highest level of public international law. I am thrilled to be joining this group. Its unique law+ approach and world-known expertise in resolving, and especially in preventing, disputes ties in well with my background and interests. I look forward to contributing to Omnia’s expansion and continued success”.
Roberto Lupini, who joined Omnia in November 2021, has been promoted to Senior Associate.
Mr Lupini said:
“It has been an absolute pleasure to join an elite firm that has been able to attract so many talented colleagues and high-profile public international law work recently. My promotion is certainly a testament to the firm’s commitment to develop its international disputes practice. I am very much looking forward to helping develop the firm’s practice further in the coming years!”
Cherie Blair CBE, QC commented:
“We are very pleased to welcome James and Ricardo to the firm. Their arrival, and Roberto’s well-deserved promotion, illustrate Omnia’s commitment to the continued development of its elite international disputes practice, which is underpinned by a team who share common values while each bringing their own individual background and perspective to bear on everything we do”.
