Cherie Blair CBE, QC

Chair

Cherie Blair CBE, QC is the Founder and Chair of Omnia Strategy where she focuses on strategic international legal and advisory work and practices as a barrister. She is a Queen’s Counsel and wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

With over 35 years’ experience as a leading barrister specialising in public international law, human rights, employment law, arbitration and mediation, Cherie has represented over 30 governments as well as numerous multinational corporations in international disputes.

Through Omnia Strategy, Cherie advises clients on complex issues relating to international dispute resolution, investment treaties, corporate social responsibility and human rights in business, and government relations. She also represents clients as counsel in international arbitrations and legal cases.

She is also an adviser to the B Team, a not-for-profit initiative formed by a global group of leaders, “to create a future where the purpose of business is to be a driving force for social, environmental and economic benefit”.

In addition to her role at Omnia Strategy, Cherie also continues to work independently, primarily as an arbitrator and mediator. She was designated to serve on the ICSID panel of arbitrators in 2012, and is a panellist at the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration.

Cherie studied law at the London School of Economics (LSE) and was appointed Queen’s Counsel (QC) in 1995. In 2000, shortly before the implementation of the Human Rights Act, she was one of the founders of Matrix Chambers. She is also an accredited Advanced Mediator under the ADR Chambers/Harvard Law Project and an Elite Mediator with Clerksroom.

She has appeared in the European Court of Justice and in multiple Commonwealth jurisdictions and also lectures internationally. She is the Chancellor Emeritus and Honorary Fellow of Liverpool John Moores University; Governor Emeritus and Honorary Fellow of the LSE and the Open University (D.Univ.Open 1999); LLD (Hons), University of Liverpool (2003); Hon.D.Lit UMIST (2003); Doctor of Laws (Westminster University).

Cherie is also closely involved with various charities and is a strong advocate for women’s rights. She is the founder of the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, which runs programmes to support women entrepreneurs across the developing world, including Africa. She is also Vice Chair of the International Council on Women’s Business Leadership founded by Secretary Hillary Clinton.

Cherie sits as an Honorary Chair of the World Justice Project and is patron and President of the Africa Justice Foundation.

In 2007, she received the Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill medal in recognition of her high ideals and courageous actions.

In 2013, she was awarded the CBE in the New Year Honours for her services to women’s issues and to charity in the UK and overseas.

Julia Yun Hulme

Managing Director

Role
Julia Yun Hulme is the Managing Director of Omnia Strategy. Julia is a dual qualified US and UK solicitor with extensive experience in international corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments and the energy sector.

Career
Prior to Omnia Strategy, Julia was the Deputy General Counsel for a major European downstream oil company with over €20 billion in revenues where she led a team of 22 lawyers across Europe and was in charge of all legal aspects of the company including corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, arbitration, compliance and restructuring. Previously she worked for a leading US law firm in London where she focused on international capital markets and cross-border finance, leading large transactions and project teams. Before embarking on her career in private practice, Julia worked as a legal clerk for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Hawaii dealing with civil and criminal appeals and drafting judicial opinions.

Qualifications
Julia received her Bachelor of Arts with honours from Yale University, in Political Science and International Relations and received her US law degree from New York University School of Law, focusing on International Law. She is admitted to the New York bar and on the roll of solicitors of the Senior Courts of England and Wales.​

Sofia Blount

Director

Role
Sofia is a Director at Omnia Strategy. Her practice focuses on the implementation of public international law and institutional projects.

Career
Sofia began her career working in political relations and communications for EADS in Paris. Sofia then worked at the Libyan Investment Authority where she project managed a team to start up the operations of the sovereign wealth fund and to oversee assignments that formulated governance, human resource and asset allocation strategies. In 2009 Sofia joined the special projects team of a major European downstream oil company, where she was embedded in a McKinsey strategy project to define the future operations of the Group. She left this post to complete her Graduate Diploma in Law, whilst working for the Africa Justice Foundation.

Qualifications
Sofia holds a BSc in Biological Sciences with Hons in Psychology and a Postgraduate Diploma in International Development, and speaks French and Spanish. ​

James Palmer

Role
James Palmer is a qualified solicitor whose practice encompasses advising on public international law, dispute resolution and general commercial advice. James advises leading multinationals as well as state entities and private clients.

Career
James has considerable experience in litigation, international arbitration and mediation with a particular focus on emerging markets. James spent nearly six years at a leading London City law firm where his work spanned a wide variety of sectors including energy, telecoms and banking. Recently James has represented clients across Africa, the Caribbean, India and Eastern Europe. Before entering private practice, James was posted to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda where he worked for the Office of the Prosecutor.

Qualifications
James is a qualified solicitor and is admitted to the roll in England and Wales. He was named a “Rising Star” by Thomson Reuters’ 2013 Super Lawyers Directory.

Roxana Pierce

Role
Roxana Pierce is an international transactional lawyer qualified in the US whose practice focuses on negotiations, contracts, international trade, real estate transactions, securities litigation and project development.

Career
Roxana has represented clients in over 65 countries with extensive experience in the Middle East, Asia, Russia, the CIS, the Caribbean and India. Roxana has been awarded a Certification of Accomplishment by the Export-Import Bank of the United States for her accomplishments in international finance.

Qualifications
After receiving an honours degree in French at the Sorbonne University in France, Roxana Pierce attended Pepperdine University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and Intercultural Relations in 1988. She obtained her US law degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, where she focused on international jurisprudence.

In addition, Roxana is a member of the American Bar Association, the ABA International Law Advisory Panel, the American Society of International Law, and the Maryland Association of Realtors.

Mai-Linh Hamisultane

Of Counsel, Public Affairs

Role
Mai-Linh Hamisultane is a senior public affairs and communications specialist with 8 years experience advising governments and corporate clients (mining, oil and gas sector) in public diplomacy, stakeholder relation management, trade and investment promotion, and strategic communications.

Career
Mai-Linh began her career working in the French administration, before joining a European public affairs consultancy, managing media and stakeholder relations in France for foreign governments and private sector clients. From 2011, she specialised in communications projects across Africa. She lived in Gabon for two years, where she helped to set up the First Lady's foundation and served as Communications Director.

Qualifications
Mai-Linh graduated from Sciences Po Paris with a Master in Public Administration and also holds a Master of Law from the Paris II Panthéon-Assas University and a LL.M. from the Berlin Humboldt University. She is fluent in French, English and German.

Adam Smith-Anthony

Senior Associate

Role
Adam Smith-Anthony is a Senior Associate at Omnia Strategy. He is a qualified solicitor-advocate whose practice covers public international law, dispute resolution, intellectual property and general commercial matters. Adam advises leading multinationals, state entities, supra-national organisations, and private clients, in respect of a broad range of transactional, advisory and contentious matters.

Career
In the commercial sphere, Adam has considerable experience in negotiations, contract drafting, supply chain management, distribution networks, corporate governance and compliance, as well as dispute resolution and enforcement, with a particular focus on multi-jurisdictional matters and emerging markets. Adam spent six and a half years at the London office of a leading international law firm, advising and representing clients in sectors as diverse as pharmaceuticals and electronics, industrial equipment manufacturing and media, and financial services and mining. During this time, Adam completed extended secondments to the in-house legal teams of two renowned international technology and online services companies. Adam has also advised on human rights, rule of law and refugee protection matters, and has served as an Associate Legal Officer in the Chambers Support Section of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, located in Tanzania.

Qualifications
Adam is a qualified solicitor and is admitted to the roll in England and Wales; he was also awarded higher rights of audience, permitting him to appear before the senior courts. Adam holds degrees in Law (LL.B, honours) and Public International Law (LL.M, with distinction) from the University of Nottingham, a Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice from the University of Oxford, and short course certificates from University College London and the British Institute of International and Comparative Law.

Sarah Steele

Senior Associate

Role
Sarah is a Senior Associate at Omnia Strategy. She is an English law qualified solicitor whose practice includes advising on commercial and investor-State disputes, general commercial advice focussed on dispute prevention as well as public affairs and business & human rights.

Career
Since joining Omnia Strategy, Sarah has advised a large energy company in an investor-State dispute, assisted a State-owned entity in settling a dispute with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and advised on a consortium agreement in connection with an LNG tender. Prior to joining Omnia, Sarah spent nearly six years at a leading US law firm in London, where she represented multinational corporations and financial institutions on a broad range of corporate transactions. Sarah also spent six months working in the firm’s Singapore office, where she focused on energy project finance deals in Asia and Australia. Before entering private practice, Sarah worked as a legal consultant for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advising on the application of international human rights treaties to a British Overseas Territory, and worked at the Council of Europe in the Directorate of Legal Advice and Public International Law. Sarah has worked as a political assistant in the House of Commons and for a Member of the European Parliament (MEP).

Qualifications
Sarah is a qualified solicitor and is admitted to the roll in England and Wales. She holds an LLM in Public International Law (with Distinction) from University College London and an LLB (Hons) from the University of Southampton.

Sarah sits as a Committee Member on the Law Society’s Professional Standards & Ethics Committee.

Ema Vidak-Gojkovic

Senior Associate

Role
Ema Vidak-Gojkovic is a Senior Associate at Omnia Strategy, focusing on international arbitration and public international law. Ema has training and experience in civil, common and public international law, with a particular expertise in disputes related to the Eastern European countries. Ema holds leadership positions in international arbitration organizations, has taught university courses and speaks and publishes on international dispute resolution topics.

Career
Before joining the firm, Ema worked in the International Arbitration practice of a leading international law firm. She conducted complex and high stakes arbitrations, and represented high-profile clients across a number of industries including food industry, luxury products, construction and energy. She worked under ICSID, ICC, SCC, and Zagreb Arbitration Rules. 

Ema also has experience in the field of public international law. She worked at the United Nations Office of the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights in New York, focusing on state responsibility and corporate social responsibility.  

Ema is a delegate at the UNCITRAL Working Group II (Arbitration and Conciliation), and sits on the Executive Board of ArbitralWomen YAWP.

In addition to her private practice, Ema teaches International Negotiation and Dispute Resolution courses at the Faculty of Law in Vienna, and at the Zagreb School of Economics and Management. 

Qualifications
Ema is a dual-qualified New York and Croatian attorney. She graduated from Harvard Law School (LL.M), with a full merit-based scholarship. She also holds a law degree from Zagreb Faculty of Law (Mag.Iur.), with highest distinction and multiple Dean's and University Chancellor's Awards of Excellence.

Claire Kerschensteiner

Role
Claire is an Associate at Omnia Strategy who specialises in international dispute resolution and prevention, and whose practice encompasses government and corporate advisory work and other aspects of commercial and public international law.

Career
Before joining Omnia, Claire’s practice involved multi-jurisdictional civil and criminal disputes for high net worth individuals, politically exposed persons and corporates. With a focus on political advocacy, Claire has represented clients in Latin America, Africa and the CIS.

Claire has a varied dispute resolution caseload with a particular focus on international treaty and commercial arbitration and settlement, plus a developing specialism in white collar criminal law, sanctions and regulatory compliance.  Claire also advises on state capacity-building, corporate management of human rights risks, and international commercial matters.  

Qualifications
Claire is a solicitor qualified to practice in England & Wales, and in the Republic of Ireland.  Claire holds higher rights of audience, permitting her to appear before the senior courts of England and Wales in criminal matters.   Claire holds an LLB from the University of Law, London, and an MA (Hons) in Modern Languages from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.  In addition to her native English, Claire speaks Russian, French and Spanish.
